Soft Speakers

WEEK 10

This week I made three different speakers, two from conductive tape but varying in shape, and one from conductive thread.

My favorite to make and test was by far the conductive thread one. I decided to try making a triangular coil without securing the conductive thread with regular thread, even though that is not what had been shown to us in class.

I did mess up a few times because I kept forgetting to make sure the lead sticking out the back wasn’t getting in the way of the rest of the coil, and I actually had to take out all of the sowing twice because of this…

(Left) Looking good but I forgot to leave a lead down the middle. (Middle & Right) Totally botched it and had to start from scratch…

Ultimately though, when I finally got it, it was awesome not just being able to hear out of this version of a soft speaker, but because of the placement and tension of the conductive thread, you could see and even feel the thread vibrating as well.
